What Are the New Rules

Yi-Tan Weekly Tech Call #
68
2006-01-23
(
Monday
)

We've talked about the effects of openness, DIY, Web 2.0 and Ajax, the long tail, folksonomies, peer production, grassroots connectivity and natural costs. Something new is afoot.

Back in 1998, the prescient Kevin Kelly described the emerging forces of the new order in The New Rules for the New Economy (get it here in full text, free, though I recommend the dead-tree souvenir version). Can we improve on it?

Please join us to brainstorm a working list of new rules, addressing questions such as:
  • How do you mix openness with profits?
  • Which companies obey these rules? Which violate them? Does it make a difference?
  • What are the implications for industrial organization?
Here are Kevin's New Rules for the New Economy.

An IRC Chat will be available during the call, here.

As always, an IRC chat will be available during the call at #yitan. (Not familiar with IRC? Just join us here.)

We tweet as @yitan (and use #yitan as our hashtag). Please follow us on Twitter. This page is on the web here.
