) What if the Internet stopped being the Internet? That's the premise proponents of Net Neutrality make.
The open, relatively fair access we take for granted today is under threat because the trends toward commodity broadband run counter to telco and cable company pressures to create differentiated products.
One threat is legislation that would no longer require carriers to resell access openly to ISPs. Another is tiered service, in which carriers would charge preferential access fees to site owners such as Yahoo and Google.
With telecom mavens Martin Geddes and David Isenberg, we'll evaluate these threats as well as other forces and ask:
